Title: Ocean City Officials Head to Court, Accused of Violating Local Pay-to-Play Ordinance

Clipping: Ocean City resident files complaint for violation of pay-to-play ordinance

Details: Ocean City resident Ed Price filed complaints against four City Council members, the municipal public defender, and the former mayor, alleging that they violated the city's pay-to-play ordinance.

The city adopted the ordinance in 2005. Salvatore Perillo became the city's mayor in 2006, and he appointed Douglas Walker municipal Public Defender less than one year after Mr. Walker donated $500 to Mr. Perillo's campaign.

The validity of the ordinance, whether Ocean City ever followed it, or whether it was superceded by the less restrictive state pay-to-play law has come into question during the past year.

The case will be heard in Atlantic City.
